Biography

From Puerto Rico, Rigo Collazo began playing congas at age eleven, taking private lessons with Paul Rosario, a renowned Puerto Rican percussionist. At fourteen he began playing drums for bands while continuing his studies with Samuel Lifschitz.

Rigo finished his Bachelor in Business Administration in 1989 graduated at the University of Puerto Rico, where he also participated in the Jazz and Popular music Lab Band. During the college years, Rigo played drums with artists such as Lourdes Robles, Alvaro Torres and Raymond Arrieta.

Later he continued his studies and professional preparation at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California. At the MI Rigo studied with Joe Porcaro, Ralph Humphrey, Dave Beyer and Casey Scheuerell.

Rigo returned to Puerto Rico after graduating with honors from MI to play with various artists and the TV show Gimme a Break, where he worked for 11 years. Rigo also plays with Millo Torres and the Third Planet (www.mttpmusic.com) with whom he continues to play today.

The band plays different styles like latin rock, rock, reggae, ska and jazz and have shared the stage with Carlos Santana, Ziggy Marley, Steel Pulse, Giovanni Hidalgo, Miguel Bosé, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs and many more.

In 2001, Rigo created Rigodrum, where he teaches drums, percussion and vibraphone.
