MADE IN INDIA

19Aug 2011

preparing the syahi from different ingredients
preparing the head
slicing the raw hides
mounting the head
making it look nice by using different kind of raw hides
putting the syahi on the dayan
nothing happens without indian chai tea
pre-tuning of the drums
cutting spare material of the damping layer
engraving beautiful ornaments on the bayan
quality control and final sound check before approval

during my recent trip through india, i visited the supplier of our professional tabla set (PRO-TABLA).

very interesting to see this extremely detailed and diligent craftsmanship!
a worker needs about two days to finish a tabla - only putting the heads on the dayan or bayan (shells) and to pre-tune them accordingly. it takes about 6 to 7 hours, just to put multiple layers of syahi (black paste) on the head.

very impressive and makes me proud to have such beautiful instruments in our assortment!
