TAKU HIRANO WITH THE MEINL PROFESSIONAL TABLA

12May 2010

meinl artist taku hirano performed with shakira using the meinl professional tabla!

"pretty impressive! no other major percussion manufacturer has attempted adding tabla to their catalogue, and meinl did it right by linking up with master craftsmen in india. they even hammered a custom meinl insignia on the copper bayan!" comments taku hirano.

i'm glad to hear good feedback on those drums. it took us quite a while to find one of the best craftsman for tablas. these are some really fine drums that are worth each penny!

LARRY SALZMAN WITH OUR 12" PANDEIRO

08Mar 2010

hello everybody,

i hope you're all well and happy out there!

here at our german headquarters is everything okay so far (except for the never ending winter season... this morning we had snow again and -13° C... !)

but today i got hit by a small ray of sunlight from sunny california. larry salzman - a new member of the MEINL family from LA - just forwarded me a link of him playing our 12" shell tuned pandeiro. last time i was in LA i was lucky to see him live with this amazingly band - really, really cool! it's a short but very musical and groovy clip. i like it a lot and i can't wait to seeing more of this stuff in the future!

thanks for sharing larry and enjoy your warm weather ;-)

Dear friends,

It's a pleasure to let you know the latest news about Meinl artist Amadito Valdés, who will take part in a major exhibition in Civilization Museum of Quebec, Canada.

The Musée de la civilisation in Quebec City is currently preparing a major exhibition devoted to 20th century popular music in the Americas. Scheduled to open June 2, 2010, the 8000-square-foot exhibition will run through March 13, 2011.

The focus of the exhibition is on the African origins and cross-cultural influences that characterize North and South American music styles such as blues, jazz, R&B, rock, soul, samba, bossa nova, reggae and hip hop, to name but a few. The exhibition consists mainly of showing musical instruments and suits and dresses from musicians and singers who have become world celebrities, video projections and sound tracks based on archival material.

Collaborators of our music exhibition are, among others, The Louis Armstrong House, Miles Davis Properties, Ray Charles Enterprises, The Raices Latin Music Collection, the National Museum of American History, Amadito Valdés from Buena Vista Social Club.

The timbal of famous Cuban percussionist Amadito Valdés, member of the Buena Vista Social Club, will be shown at the Civilization Museum of Québec, Canada, in that exhibition of Afro-American musical instruments.

on tour with josé j. cortijo

02Nov 2009

josé j. cortijo

last friday, i've met with meinl artist josé j. cortijo in nuernberg. josé, who currently tours with peter kraus, performed together with the SWR big band. great swinging band, killer wind players, and a mutually tight rhythm section...

well, besides the roadies, i would say i was definitely the youngest spectator among the crazy crowd :)

but i enjoyed the show very much. thanks josé for the kindness and the nice chat!

keep in touch,
mario
