Being born and raised in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, Freddie Miranda Jr graduated from Escuela Libre de Música Ernesto Ramos Antonini in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1988. He then pursued his musical studies at the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music under the instruction of Professor Jose Alicea. Besides,he has studied privately with some great percussionists.
Freddie Miranda Jr has performed in his native Puerto Rico as one of the first call percussionists in studio recordings with producers such as Bobby Valentín, Lito Peña, Cucco Peña, Luis Perico Ortiz and Humberto Ramírez. He has performed with the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra, The Puerto Rico State Band, as well as in different operas and zarzuelas. Freddie has recorded and collaborated numerous of Salsa and Latin Jazz recordings, many which have become signature hits for various artists. Among these recordings is "Bobby Valentin Vuelve a la Carcel, 25 Aniversario". He worked for 10 years as a percussion teacher at the Preparatory School at the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music.
He joined the United States Air Force Band Program in 2006. As a military member, Freddie has performed clinics in the Continental US and Puerto Rico as well as appearances all over the US as well as in England, Germany, Turkey and Middle East Asia.
In July 2010 Freddie relocated in Tokyo, Japan. Since his arrival on station he has performed extensively across the Japanese mainland, Guam and Korea with all of the ensembles in the Air Force Band. He also tours and performs with local artists such as Gen Ogimi, Rie Akagi, Miho Nakada, and Sayaka Katsuki.
