[Artist Spotlight] Heng Liu

Heng Liu was born in 1987 in Xi’an China. At his early age he began to learn percussion with his father, who is a percussion professor in Xi’an Conservatory of Music.

From age 16 to 18, he began to study with Prof. Gang Liu and Prof. Biao Li, the two most famous percussion professors in the Central Conservatory of Music (CCOM). At age 22, he was recommended for the Master Degree study on the percussion in CCOM by Prof. Biao Li.

During his study in CCOM, he played in the Youth Orchestral of China as a Principle Percussion, and he also played in lots of famous orchestras, such as National Orchestra of China, Beijing Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, EOS Orchestra, and so on.

He founded the Modern Percussion Group in CCOM, composing many different styles of percussion music like Classical, Latin, Jazz, Fusion, and Funk with group members, and played percussion concerts in many different colleges in Beijing.

Besides, he also performs in Europe like Germany, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Greece, and Austria.

He is now one of China’s busiest young percussionists, touring with many pop stars & bands, like David Tao, Tia, Lao Lang, etc…
