Afro-Cuban Styles on Congas

Hello everyone,

Everyday we work really hard to make sure your experience with MENIL is the best possible. Part of that experience is the high quality products we make and the excellent customer service we provide. Also I believe part of that is how we help you get better at the instrument you have chosen to play, either for fun or as a profession. So with that in mind I wanted to share with you two videos that I've produced with two amazing artists, William "Kachiro" Thompson and Jarrengton de Leon. Our idea is that even if you are not in Puerto Rico or the Dominican Republic, you can still have the chance to learn from these great musicians and apply what you learn to your playing and get better at it, and ultimately have more fun, which is the reason why we do this, right?

There are 4 videos with William "Kachiro" Thompson that demonstrate the styles that Kachiro understands are the most important Afro-Cuban and Brazilian styles a conga player should know and understand to be able to work. If you have attended Kachiro's clinics you know that he puts special emphasis in these styles and also the fact that conga players need to work very hard on consistency of sound. Kachiro is one of the most disciplined musicians I know and his success is in part due to his work ethic and dedication. Below is Part I. Kachiro is playing MEINL Fibercraft Congas. Enjoy.

Dominican Styles on Congas

Just like with Kachiro, in this video we wanted to share all the wonderful variety of styles that the Dominican Republic has to offer. Jarrengton is another example of a successful percussionist that has an incredible work ethic, leadership skills and discipline. Jarrengton is playing MEINL Woodcraft Congas. Enjoy.

I sincerely hope you enjoy these videos. On our YouTube channel there are plenty more to watch and learn from so make sure you check them out and subscribe.

Thank you all for reading and for the support. If you have specific questions about a style or if there is a style that has not been put on video, please don't hesitate to let us know we will do our best to produce one.

Regards to all,

Germán Baratto
