The MEINL family is deeply saddened to hear about the death of our friend and artist Rafael Santa Cruz. We know how difficult this must be for his family and friends including his wife Julie Guillerot and his older son Jair Santa Cruz. This is also a difficult time for the thousands of fans of this great artist who in later years became the most important ambassador of the Cajon around the world.
We will remember Rafael as a pioneer, a leader and a mentor of many generations of musicians and percussionists in Peru, as well as a kind person and a good friend of great charisma.
Recently we share some amazing moments with “Rafa” in his beloved Lima while we attended the International Cajon Festival and as always he was a great host and entertainer.
I’m personally thankful for the moments I shared with Rafa, for the things I learned from him and for what he did for the percussion world, the Peruvian music and for the Cajon.
Today the percussion world has lost a good one and we know the entire percussion community will miss Rafael. May he rest in peace.
