Biography
Originally from Costa Rica, Ramses Araya has had a prolific career that has taken him around the world playing with well known artists like Giovanni Hidalgo, Paquito D`Rivera, Ignacio Berroa, Luis Conte, Diego Urcola, Avishai Cohen, Dave Valentin, Victor Mendoza, Nestor Torres, Luis Muñoz, Jimmy Bosh, Los Van Van, Marc Quiñones, Bobby Allende, Papo Luca, Irakere, Ralphy Irizarry, Strunz and Farah, Lalo Rodriguez, Mikey Taveras, Jose Alberto "El Canario", Lucy Grau, Roberto Torres, Servando Y Florentino, Cano Estremera, Grupo Niche, Juan Gabriel, Fanny Lu, Alvaro Torres, Lito Solanas, Daniela Mercury, Oloddum, Alejandro Lerner, Alquimia, Eric Rigler, Boca Libre, Nelson Gonzalez, Papo Luca, Bobby Valentin y Roberto Roena, Charlie Zaa, Ramon Stagnaro, Richard Cepeda, El Greco, Chichi Peralta, Otmaro Ruiz, Chino Espinoza y Los Dueños del Son, Opa Opa, The Echo Park Project, and María Rivas.
As Flamenco artist Ramses performed with Teo Morca, Angel Atienza, Juan Polvillo and Celina Zambon, Victor Monge Serranito, Kai Narezo, Jesus Montoya.
In his native Costa Rica, Ramses studied at Conservatorio De Castella, the most important in the country. Later he visited Cuba to study at Instituto Superior de Arte de la Habana Cuba and later moved to Miami, where he currently resides.
During the 5 years that Ramses spent with the Rubén Blades band, he had the opportunity to play tours in Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, at prestigious festivals like Holland Roots Fest in Amsterdam, La Villette Jazz Fest in Paris, Westport Jazz Fest in Germany, Montreaux Jazz Fest in Switzerland, JVC Jazz Fest in the Carnegie Hall, the Sócalo and the Auditorio Nacional in México City, and two times at the Caracas Pop Fest in Venezuela.
He also participated in three Grammy Winner recordings with Ruben Blades and the DVD's “Encuentro” (with guest artists Juan Luis Guerra and Robi Draco Rosa) and “En vivo en Cali”.
Ramses played for Joan Sebastian, with which, for the past 7 years, he has played all over Mexico and the United States. At the same time, Ramses is part of the Araya-Orta Latin Jazz Quartet with his brother Carlomagno Araya and the brothers Nicky & Mike Orta. With this group, Ramses has played with Paquito D'Rivera and participated in the Riviera Maya Festival in Tulúm México, Twin Cities Jazz Festival in Minneapolis, and a special concert with the Costa Rica Symphony Orchestra entitled “Symphonic Jazz” featuring Ernie Wats.
Ramses is also musical director, producer, and timbalero of the Araya's Latin Krew, his own band.
