Biography
Born in the city of Pasto, Colombia, she started her musical journey at a very young age. She began as a trumpet player for different groups from her hometown, she also pursued singing where she won several competitions in national contests.
But it was when she moved to the city of Cali, Colombia, that she initiated her career as a percussionist. Playing for multiple ensembles and groups around the city, she strengthened her talent as a percussionist and grew as a musician overall.
Alexandra has recorded with artists such as Puerto Rican flutist Nestor Torres in his Latin jazz album, which was nominated for both Grammy and Latin Grammy for Best Album in the genre. She also had the opportunity to record with Bobby Cruz in his song “Agua Para Beber”.
In 2016 she was invited to be part of the jury for the Festival Mundial de Salsa in Cali, Colombia.
In 2018 Milton Salcedo invited her to participate in the song “Sombrero de Yarey” from his Latin Grammy-nominated album “Swing 80” where she recorded the entire percussion section.
In 2019 Mario Ortiz had her be a part of his Latin Grammy-nominated album “50 Aniversario” recording the song “Budo”.
The singer Albita Rodriguez also invited her to record one of the songs from her Album “Acústico”.
Some of the artists that Alexandra has worked with are Maelo Ruiz, Tito Nieves, Jerry Rivera, Luisito Carrion, Ray Sepulveda, Ray de la Paz, Henry Fiol, Orquesta Mulenze, Tito Gomez, Richie Ray and Bobby Cruz (Special invitation as a percussionist), Roberto Blades and Cano Estremera among others.
She also had the chance to be part of the Tribute to Colombian Salsa (Tributo a la Salsa Colombiana) a project by Alberto Barros, which won 2 Gold Discs for sales in Mexico.
