Biography
Born in the city of Havana, Cuba, Quebec percussionist and accompanist Dayron Luis San Juan stands out among our most talented artists. In 2005, Dayron completed pre-university studies at Sergio Gonzales High School and then completed a bachelor's degree at the Martha Machado Cuni School of Art Instructors in 2009, where he completed professional studies in percussion and human sciences. Dayron works as a percussionist accompanying several groups such as: "Raisel y sus chicos del sabor", "Base llena" and "Sol Caribe" among others. He then became part of Quebec's artistic life by being part of many bands; bassist Carl Mayotte (2020-2021 Radio Revelation Canada Award), pianist and composer Manoel Vieira (professor at the Music Faculty of Université de Montréal) as well as Cuban pianist and composer Rafael Zaldivar (JUNO-nominated artist, Associate Professor at the Music Faculty at Université Laval, Visiting Artist at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and Manhattan School of Music in New York). In addition, Dayron participates in the Montreal festival "Jazz En Rafale" and the Rimouski Jazz Festival as a percussionist accompanist for Manoel Vieira's ensemble. Today, Dayron is a JUNOS-nominated artist, which positions him as one of the most important performers on the Quebec music scene.
