Biography
Jost Nickel, drummer with Jan Delay & Disko No. 1 since 2006, belongs to the current golden generation of German drummers. Friends and colleagues like Anika Nilles (one of his students), Marco Minnemann, and Benny Greb are closely connected to his name - they all stand for groundbreaking, modern drumming on a world-class level.
As one of the top session and tour drummers in Germany he played on many top 10 albums and with bands and artists like SEEED, Mousse T., Sasha, or Johannes Oerding.
He worked live and in the studio with international jazz stars such as Randy Brecker, Jeff Lorber, Bob Mintzer, Jimmy Haslip, Barry Finnerty, Mitch Forman, and Brandon Fields.
Jost is a lecturer at the Popakademie Mannheim and has made a name for himself worldwide through his performances at the Montréal Drum Fest (Canada), the PASIC (USA), the NAMM Show (USA), the Meinl Drum Festival, the UK Drum Show and the Tam-Tam Festival in Spain.
This led to the nomination as "Best Clinician" in 2016 in Modern Drummer Magazine (USA) and to the honoring as one of the 10 best clinicians in the world in 2016 & 2017 by musicradar (UK).
His three textbooks, "Jost Nickels GROOVE BOOK", "Jost Nickel FILL BOOK" and "Jost Nickel SNARE BOOK", have been published worldwide in different languages and have been included in the 2019 & 2020 list of best textbooks by Modern Drummer Magazine (USA).
He also wrote guest articles in Modern Drummer (USA), Drummer (UK), Rhythm & Drums (Japan), Batterie (France), Perkusista (Poland), and Drums & Percussion (D).
