Biography
Multi-percussionist | Composer
Lucy Landymore is a British award winning multi-percussionist, drummer and composer. She frequently performs to sold out arenas across Europe as the drummer with the World of Hans Zimmer. She is also guest lead percussionist and drummer with world-renowned duo Igudesman & Joo. Previously, she has toured with Hans Zimmer Live, which can be seen on the DVD Live in Prague, as well as with the world famous tenor Andrea Bocelli.
As a result of being exposed to multiple musical genres through her life, Lucy incorporates these influences into her performances and compositions. As well as rehearsing with Big Bands and studying music from Africa and India, she traveled to Rio de Janeiro to study Samba, and Havana to study Cuban music, including lessons with the legendary Changuito.
Vibrant for solo vibraphone is published on Universal Editions, along with a music video featuring Lucy performing her own work. Lucy has written numerous vibraphone solo pieces, including a range of pieces dedicated to individuals struggling with specific mental health problems. Her composition Roo for solo vibraphone, violin and orchestra has been toured in venues across Europe with Lucy as a vibraphone soloist.
In 2019, Lucy was commissioned to write Fantaisie Festive for orchestra and 13 soloists for the 10 Year Gala of the Puplinge Classique Festival in Geneva.
2018 saw the premiere of Landymore's ensemble music, held in concert at the Tonhalle Maag, Zurich in 2018. In this extraordinary project titled Football in Concert, she fused together her music with sport to enhance the experience of the FIFA World Cup football match, as well as adding visual excitement to the music itself. The project was commissioned by More than Classic.
Lucy and her brother, the producer Ben Landymore, have composed the film score for SHIELD, directed by Yijie Mei. Presently, Lucy is working on a project with film director Zu Quirke, involving her own composition Romance XL for solo multi-percussion.
Many international publications have featured Lucy’s work, including the German Drums & Percussion magazine and the French Batterie magazine, which voted her in the Top 10 New Drummers of 2019.
Lucy has been featured on Sky TV with Michael Parkinson, BBC 2; BBC radio 1 Live Lounge and BBC radio 1; BBC radio 3 among many other radio stations. She was the drummer in Hollywood in Vienna with Hans Zimmer, which was broadcast to many TV stations around the world and the German TV channel Deutsche Welle has done a portrait of her.
Lucy is endorsed by both Meinl Percussion and Meinl Cymbals, which she uses with the World of Hans Zimmer and Igudesman & Joo. She is also endorsed by Protection Racket.
Background
Lucy's fascination with drums was obvious from the age of 2, as she watched performances by her father's big band 78RPM. From the age of 9, Lucy rehearsed with Linton Jazz, where she developed her big band playing. She gathered experience playing classical percussion with NYO, Aldeburgh Young Musicians and St. Luke's LSO Academy for Percussion.
In 2010, Lucy won the percussion category of the BBC Young Musician of the Year, where she included Frank Zappa’s famous drum solo The Black Page in her performance.
Lucy studied classical percussion at the Royal College of Music with Dave Hockings and Ralph Salmins, simultaneously giving recitals across the UK in venues like St. John's Smith Square, the V&A museum and Kettles Yard, Cambridge.
